As the weather has gotten colder and the days shorter, you might feel like doing less and staying in your cozy home, which would be the totally appropriate thing to align yourself with the season. As you can see, Tarzan is a great example of relaxing, day and night on the couch with a blanket :)
A patient expressed her interest to know how to adjust herself with the season so I suggested a few health practices that you can add to your life for the winter season :
In Chinese Medicine, the winter season is associated with water element and the corresponding organs are kidneys and bladder. There is a common saying about Winter being the Cold Waters of the North. So what does cold do? It slows down the movement and stiffens the muscles and joints, which might cause you to feel more aches and pain these days.
What is the remedy to cold? Heat! If you experience cold weather causing your joints and muscles hurt more, you can use a heating pad in the area. Also, make sure to dress warmly. If you know how to do moxa, you can apply moxa on the stiff area and on the lower abdomen to strengthen the body’s overall energy resources.
If you are a carnivore, you can add more red meat to your diet, especially lamb stews and bone broths. If you are a vegetarian or follow a plant based diet, you can add more onion, ginger, cinnamon to your cooked meals.
