Qigong in the Garden Class

Weekly Qigong Class

As part of a holistic system of traditional healing together with Tui Na massage, herbs, and acupuncture, Qigong exercise is one of the four significant branches of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Practice twelve standing movement methods of Daoyin Qigong and three standing-in-stillness postures of Zhan Zhuang Qigong in this weekly group practice within our beautiful clinic garden, facilitated by Charles Strange every Wednesday from 3-4pm.

The Daoyin Qigong are movements that stretch sinews and open the body’s energy, emphasizing smoothness, softness, and gentleness. Daoyin means “guiding and pulling” and refers to the effect these movements have on the body’s energy and sinews. Practiced in combination with full breathing, these twelve exercises offer a great-feeling daily routine that can refresh the mind by nurturing, energizing, and transforming the body.

The Zhan Zhuang Qigong are stillness postures, practiced while standing and being still in specific ways, shapes and forms. Zhan Zhuang means “standing like a tree” and is a powerful method for developing the body, its energy, and awareness. The different Zhan Zhuang body shapes develop specialized power attributes. With consistent daily practice, these three Zhan Zhuang shapes cultivate the power attributes of dissolving, expansion, and projection.
